Myanmar's military seized control of the country on Monday under a one-year state of emergency over alleged irregularities in the November election.

The military announced on Myawaddy military television that elections would be held by the end of the year, with the military handing over power to the winner.
The move comes hours after Burmese President Aung San Suu Kyi and other officials from the ruling National League for Democracy were detained.
NLD spokesman Myo Nyunt said President Win Myint was among those detained Monday morning.
"As far as we know, the Burmese army has arrested all the important people, so now we can say that this is a coup."
