At least nine people, including an army general, have been killed and 15 others injured in an Alshabab attack on a hotel in Mogadishu.

A car bomb had exploded near a hotel in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, on Sunday. Following the bombing, gunfire erupted between the terrorists and the police.
Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack. An eyewitness said the bomb went off on Sunday near the Hotel Afrik, an area full of security checkpoints on the way to the airport in Mogadishu.
Police confirmed that al-Shabab militants stormed the hotel, but managed to rescue occupants, including former Somali Defense Minister Yusuf Siad Inndha-Adde.
VOA's Abdikafi Yusuf Aden was one of the victims at the hotel, but escaped. Aden said that after the smoke bomb went off, people were falling from the top floor to save their lives.
