On Tuesday, the House of Representatives resolved to conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of terrorism and insecurity in the North West region, especially the illegal mining.
The decision was reached following the approval of the bill by Hon. Kabiru Mai-Palace, who expressed his concern over the continuing deterioration of insecurity in the North-West region of Nigeria.
In the debate he led, Hon. Kabiru condemned the increase in violence by bandits in the North East region of Nigeria, leading to the abduction of female students of the Federal University in Zamfara State and the kidnapping of other people serving the country. (NYSC) when they were on their way to Sokoto State.
He also mentioned some incidents of violence against innocent Nigerians in different states of the region.
Concerned about these things, Hon. Kabiru called on the federal government to ensure the release of all the abductees and arrest the kidnappers to punish them.
He also requested the government to deploy more security forces in the areas of violence in the region.
In his response, Hon. Ismail Haruna has proposed to reform the North East region, especially Bauchi State in prayers.
On his part, Hon. Suleiman Gummi stressed the need for cooperation between the security forces and other stakeholders in the fight against bandits and armed robbers in the North West region.
He called on the council to give advice to the presidential adviser on security matters to organize a special meeting to ensure that all stakeholders work together to solve the problem of bandits and insecurity in the region.
He is also speaking, Hon. Abdullahi Balarabe emphasized the need to ensure the involvement of the citizens in the plans to solve the problems of bandits and insecurity that plagued the Northern region.
In his contribution, Hon. Isa Mohammed urged the federal government to ensure the implementation of the resolutions reached with the previous government.
In the continuation of efforts to provide lasting solutions to the security challenges faced, he called for an investigation into the activities of illegal miners in the area, which according to him is the cause of increasing insecurity in the North.
While expressing his opinion, Hon. Bello Kaoje stressed the need to carry out a thorough investigation into the causes of terrorism and insecurity in the North-West region, especially analyzing their relationship with illegal mining.
Therefore, the council ordered the joint security committees to confirm the next step.
During the session, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu has ordered the closure of all temporary committees of the parliament to make room for the permanent committees to carry out their legal duties.
The heads of the ad hoc committees were instructed to present their reports, and the parliamentary committees to continue from where they left off.
