Reports from Borno State in the northeast of Nigeria say that some suspected members of the Boko Haram group have kidnapped women and men in the town of Ngala, which is adjacent to the Republic of Cameroon.
A resident of Gamboru Ngala told the BBC that the incident happened when the people went to cut wood in the forest.
Information shows that the abducted are living in a refugee camp in the area.
Some residents of the town said that the incident happened at the end of the week, but due to poor communication, information on the incident started to be received on Tuesday.
So far, the authorities have not confirmed the number of abducted persons, but some residents of the area said that more than 100 people were abducted.
"On Sunday, we learned that refugees went to the forest to cut wood, and Boko Haram kidnapped them. More than 200 people entered the forest, but they chose 113 and kidnapped them and let the elderly and children go."," said the man, who requested anonymity.
Some media in Nigeria say that the number of people kidnapped is 319, and if this is confirmed, it is the largest number of people kidnapped since the abduction of 276 students at Chibok High School 10 years ago.
This incident comes after the Borno state government claimed that 95 percent of Boko Haram fighters have surrendered or been killed.
There has been more than 10 years of conflict with members of the Boko Haram group in northeastern Nigeria, which has resulted in the death of more than 40,000 people while more than two million have been displaced.
